"History
Some authors establish its first foundation in the 10th century . The first reference to the monastery appears in a document from the monastery of Lérez from 1073, in which the abbot of Tenorio appears as a confirmatory.

At the end of the 15th century , Pedro Madruga changed the abbot of Tenorio for a monk from the monastery of Lérez, which caused the monks to abandon the monastery, who did not accept the appointment. It was later used as a shelter by guerrillas during the War of Independence and was partially destroyed when it was set on fire by the French army. The definitive abandonment occurred after the confiscation of Mendizabal .

Architecture
Of the old Romanesque architecture of the monastery of the Benedictine order , only the southwest corner of the church is preserved along with some pieces such as the Agnus Dei or a rose window on the façade, currently an oculus . Ángel del Castillo points out the existence of an inscription from the 13th century that is currently illegible.

It has a baroque church from the 18th century , built on top of a previous one, probably Romanesque judging by the structure of the vault and the shape of some bricked-up windows. Possibly this early church belonged to the monastery founded by the Benedictines.

The façade of the church has a door with a lintel, below a cross with a rose window.

The main altar, from 1702, has a polychrome altarpiece with images of Saint Peter, the Immaculate Conception and Christ the King. It was possibly designed by Domingo Rodríguez de Pazos. To the right of the nave there is an altar with the Holy Family and the Virgin of Carmen. There are also altars dedicated to Saint Anthony and Saint Christopher. On the left side there is a pulpit and figures of the Virgin of the Rosary with the Child, Saint Roch and the Virgin of Sorrows with the Souls of Purgatory.

The cloister of the monastery, from the 16th century , has two floors and three wings that are reminiscent of those of the Lérez monastery. With a rectangular floor plan, it is in the classic baroque style , composed of semicircular arches that rest on free columns on a continuous podium.

In the atrium there is a transept with a base of three steps. The shaft is fluted and on the capital there are the Virgin and Child on one side and the crucified Christ on the other.

Near the place are the remains of a medieval fortress."
