Su iglesia parroquial tiene el nombre de San Martín, y pertenece al arciprestazgo de Fardes – Los Montes, de la diócesis de Guadix. Recientemente ha sido restaurada con mucho gusto, sacando unas pinturas antiguas que estaban debajo del encalado.

En la plaza que existe delante de la iglesia, encontramos un monumento al Sagrado Corazón de Jesús con dos lápidas. Leemos delante:
“Se levantó este monumento / al Sagrado Corazón de Jesús / costeado por su hermandad / en gratitud a tantos hijos de Purullena / que pusieron su vida a los pies de Cristo. / Lo bendijo el Señor Obispo de Guadix / don Ginés García Beltrán / siendo hermana mayor / doña Carmen Molina Blanch. / Junio 2010”.
Y en el lateral derecho de la imagen, se cuenta que las Pinturas Murales de la Iglesia y la restauración de esta Plaza han sido posibles gracias a diversas entidades públicas y a la feligresía del pueblo, por lo que se coloca esta lápida como memoria agradecida de la Parroquia. Purullena 20 de Agosto de 2009.
Y sobre el pilar cuadrado, la imagen del Sagrado Corazón de Jesús, en piedra blanca, de tamaño natural, que representa a Jesucristo apoyado en unas nubes, invitándonos a acudir a Él, vestido con amplia túnica, con los brazos abiertos mostrando las llagas de las manos y con el corazón perfectamente visible en el centro del pecho.
"El Sagrado Corazón de Jesús es una devoción católica referida al corazón de Jesucristo, como un símbolo de amor divino. La devoción al Sagrado Corazón tuvo su origen en una corriente mística centrada en la persona de Jesucristo, que concebía el corazón como centro vital y expresión de su entrega y amor total.2? En tal sentido, la devoción al Sagrado Corazón se refiere en particular a los sentimientos de Jesús, y en especial a su amor."

And on the right side of the image, it is said that the Mural Paintings of the Church and the restoration of this Plaza have been possible thanks to various public entities and the parishioners of the town, which is why this tombstone is placed as a grateful memory of the Parish. And on the square pillar, the image of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, in white stone, life size, which represents Jesus Christ leaning on clouds, inviting us to come to Him, dressed in a wide tunic, with open arms showing the wounds of hands and with the heart perfectly visible in the center of the chest.
