This wooden signpost is placed outside the Field Studies Council, a marine search laboratory on the island of Great Cumbrae in the Firth of Clyde off the Ayrshire coast of Scotland. It is situated on the south-eastern tip of the island just outside its only settlement of Millport.

The B896 road hugs the entire coastline of the island and it passes by here three miles south of the landing from the only ferry to the island, a continual service from the town of Largs on the mainland.

The signpost contains five famous places in Scotland, Its largest body of water, Loch Lomond, the city of Glasgow, the most northerly road ending at John O'Groats, the highest mountain of Ben Nevis, and the volcanic plug of Ailsa Craig, an island lying south down the Firth of Clyde.

Historic significance:
Placed by the Field Studies Council to point out the distance and direction to five famous Scottish places, all only reachable by leaving the island.
