A small city block roughly the shape of a triangle has been developed for commercial usage and has an unusually large number of Txdot Right of Way (R.O.W.) bench mark stations along the outer edges of the property.

An odd shaped block of commercially developed land was formed by the intersections created by the IH-10 Frontage Road, West Wildwood Drive, Brad Street, and West Hermosa Drive. This small city block is within the central part of San Antonio, Texas, about 5 miles Northwest of downtown. The property is used by various companies, usually displaying large commercial vehicles for rent or for sale. For some reason this property along the IH-10 frontage road has six (6) Texas Department of Transportation Right of Way Station disks monumented around three sides of this property! Only one of the disks is behind a chain link fence, but it was placed close enough to the fence where the disk can be seen and photographed through the chain link. The other five disks were placed close to a low barrier fence made of large sized pipe, which extends across the side facing the IH-10 Frontage Road and along part of West Wildwood Drive. These bench marks are accessible from the public sidewalks.

The bench mark for this waymarking entry is the one disk that may be difficult to access, but it canstill be observed and photographed correctly.

The first method is to go there during normal business hours and, if the main entrance gate is open, walk onto the business property toward the chain link fence on the South side of the property. This would be on the left side of the property when entering through the main entrance gate, with your back toward the Frontage Road. The bench mark is about 25 feet from the corner of the low pipe railing across the front of the property and the property's chain link fence on the South edge of the property by the open field. The bench mark is about 3-4 feet away from the chain link fence, on the inside of the fence. Find the bench mark and take the appropriate photos of this STA. 309 marker.

The second method is to walk around the perimeter to the South edge of the property where the grass field is and walk along the chain link fence for about 25 feet into the field from the corner of the fence. Use a telephoto lens on your camera to zoom in on the STA. 309 disk to take the appropriate photos of the bench mark and its markings on the disk. This method can be done when the entrance gate is closed or open.

This bench mark is a round metal disk with a + symbol in the center of the disk. There are two rows of text stamped around the outer rim of the disk, some across the top and some across the bottom of the disk. Here is a description of what is stamped on this disk:

Across the top of the disk:
TEXAS DEPT. OF TRANSPORTARION
STA. 309
ELEV.

In the center of the disk is a center mark (+)

Across the bottom of the disk:
R.O.W.
