"El Ayuntamiento inaugura una escultura dedicada a un perro que murió atropellado por un coche cuando iba a visitar al cementerio a su dueño.
Es el mejor amigo del hombre y el animal más fiel, un perro nunca se separa de su dueño y para ellos la muerte no es un obstáculo. Es la historia de Lobi, el perro que, desde ayer, cuenta con una estatua en su pueblo natal, Archidona, y que fue inaugurada ayer dentro de los actos inaugurales de la Feria del Perro.
Lobi no se retiró del lado de su amo, Miguel García, durante el año en que estuvo enfermo hasta que murió. El día que lo enterraron, el perro permaneció junto a su tumba hasta que el guarda del camposanto lo echó.
Al caer la noche, el animal volvió a su casa, donde la viuda de Miguel, María García, lo esperaba junto a sus cinco hijos, quienes tampoco quisieron perderse ayer la inauguración de la estatua.
Al día siguiente, Lobi volvió junto a la tumba de su amo. Corría el 6 de mayo de 1949, y se quedó junto a la tumba hasta que volvió a ser expulsado del lugar. El can aprendió los horarios de apertura y cada día acudía a visitar el sepulcro y, al cierre del camposanto, volvía a casa.
Tres meses después, las visitas continuaron, hasta que en uno de aquellos desplazamientos Lobi fue atropellado por un coche.
En reconocimiento por su fidelidad y dentro de unas fechas marcadas por la presencia de estos animales, la imagen de Lobi se ha convertido en un símbolo en el municipio de Archidona. "Este homenaje en forma de monumento no es sólo a la figura de Lobi como historia viva de Archidona que todos conocemos, sino que se convierte en un homena
a la relación entre el hombre y el perro, un reconocimiento a la fidelidad canina en el marco de las actividades previas a la Feria del Perro", expresó el alcalde archidonés, Manuel Sánchez.
El autor encargado de dar vida a este can ha sido el artista Francisco Javier Galán. Los trabajos para esta pieza se prolongaron durante dos semanas y están basados en la imagen de un podenco andaluz, ya que no se conoce con exactitud la raza del perro aunque se presupone que bien pudiera ser un cruce con podenco, una raza muy vinculada también a la Feria del Perro de Archidona, ya que fue en una de sus ediciones donde se reconoció por primera vez como pura raza.

Three months later, the visits continued, until during one of those trips Lobi was hit by a car.
In recognition of his fidelity and within dates marked by the presence of these animals, the image of Lobi has become a symbol in the municipality of Archidona. "This tribute in the form of a monument is not only to the figure of Lobi as a living history of Archidona that we all know, but it becomes a tribute
to the relationship between man and dog, a recognition of canine fidelity within the framework of the activities prior to the Dog Fair," said the mayor of Archidones, Manuel Sánchez.
The author in charge of giving life to this dog has been the artist Francisco Javier Galán. The work for this piece lasted for two weeks and is based on the image of an Andalusian hound, since the exact breed of the dog is not known although it is assumed that it could well be a cross with a hound, a breed also closely linked to the Archidona Dog Fair, since it was in one of its editions where it was recognized for the first time as a pure breed.
