"It was built for a canon, Charles de Chouy in the 1660s, probably in 1666. He was a canon of Notre-Dame de Salles.
It has a fairly classic shape with a "U" shaped plan including a main building at the back of the courtyard. The entrance portal, in Doric style, is framed by two pavilions.
In terms of its plan, it is quite close to the Hôtel de Bengy, and we notice a staircase "ramp on ramp, with an openwork cipher wall". This Hôtel de Chouys is due to the architect Antoine Basseville.
From 1675 to 1720, this private mansion housed the intendants of the generality of Berry, such as Mathias Poncet de la Rivière in 1674 and then another intendant, very famous and relative of Colbert: Dey de Séraucourt in 1683.
It was in 1745 that this hotel passed into the Bigny family, who had the garden landscaped and stables built.
It was in 1937, therefore in a recent period, that the Hôtel de Chouy was given (a donation) to the diocesan association so that it could serve as a residence for the Archbishop of Bourges.
It is therefore still occupied by the Archbishop of Bourges, and the facade was rehabilitated around 2007. It has been classified as a historic monument since 1933."
