"The Church of San Juan Bautista is located on C/ Real in the Malaga town of Cuevas Bajas, in the Plaza de la Reja and a few meters from the Casa de los Cristales.

The temple of San Juan Bautista was built in the 18th century on another previous building, under the direction of the Antequeran builder Juan de Reina. The main façade is made of exposed brick and on its left side stands the bell tower with a baroque style belfry, with the clock at the top.

The church is distributed in three naves separated by semicircular arches, with the central nave covered by a barrel vault with blind lunettes, while the central naves are covered with groin vaults and a hemispherical vault rises in the transept.

Inside, its baptismal font from 1606 made of red marble stands out, carvings such as the Virgin of Sorrows (19th century), perhaps the most devotional image in the municipality, the carving of Jesus the Nazarene by the Sevillian image maker Castillo Lastrucci, as well as a carving of Saint Joseph from the 18th century from the Antequera school.

From here I would like to thank María José, resident of Cuevas Bajas and guide on our visit to the impressive Parish Church of San Juan Bautista, without her it would not have been possible."
