Personal blog with entries about the land of Granada, in Andalusia.
The entries range from places to interesting objects.
This person makes several entries with photos.
I put the coordinates and the entrance of Patio de las Columnas.

"On Puentezuelas Street, next to the corner of Obispo Hurtado, is one of the most characteristic buildings built at the beginning of the 19th century in the city of Granada. Situated in those grid-like extensions of baroque cities, halfway between the Magdalena neighborhood and the Plaza de los Lobos, the so-called Palacio de las Columnas was owned by the Fernández de Cordova family, owners of the palace of the same name, and specifically by the Count of Luque, from whom the palace gets its original name: "Palacio de los Condes de Luque" (Palace of the Counts of Luque). The building was occupied since 1946, when it was acquired by the Ministry of National Education, by the Faculty of Philosophy and Letters, which in 1977 was moved to the Cartuja Campus, thus removing a faculty traditionally problematic for the established powers of the city center, and therefore of its influence in a society as convulsive as that of the Transition. Since 1982 it has been occupied by the University School of Translators and Interpreters, so that its continued use for university activities has greatly changed its interior structure with respect to the time when it was the residence of noble families.
Of this neoclassical building highlights its brick facade alternating with the use of stone in the corners and around the windows and balconies. Among the stone designs are the pediments that culminate the balconies of the upper body, alternating straight and curved.

The façade is really monumental, although the narrow Puentezuelas street does not allow to enjoy it from a greater distance. The use of the four Doric and free-standing columns that give the Palace its name stands out. The upper balcony also has four Ionic columns (rather semi-columns attached), which end in a pediment.

From the interior of the Palace of the Columns it emphasizes its rectangular and landscaped patio that centers the building and U and that breaks with the traditional closed patios so habitual in the XIX century in Granada. This is probably due to the fact that we are dealing with a palace that was next to the city limits and that tried to achieve, in the open wing that we see, a greater conjunction with the orchards with which it bordered. The pond, the benches and some sculptures make it a resting place for the students of the faculty.

The entrance to the courtyard from the building is through a beautiful staircase that descends from an extraordinary facade of glazed galleries and semicircular shapes. Apart from the beautiful glazing, the elaborate ironwork of the upper balcony and the staircase handrails are outstanding. The courtyard façade culminates in a new pediment, as on the main façade.

The interior of the building has been adapted to academic needs, but in general the architecture and decoration maintain the features of what was once a palace.

The staircase leading to the main floor still has a stately appearance, and apart from its restored ceiling (including a lantern), the painting of "The apotheosis of St. Thomas next to Wisdom" stands out, a work of the master Vargas from 1631, which was donated to the University by the author himself, although it is not certain that it was painted by him. Also noteworthy is the grandiose frame decorated with vegetal elements. The fact is that much later than it was painted, the University placed it in this magnificent staircase of a Palace that is well worth a pause when passing through Puentezuelas Street."
