The stainless steel drum may have been a beer keg in the past, but with some cutting out, and adding curved pipe and pieces of stainless steel, it is looking more like a Byzantine warrior's helmet. Its gaping mouth is used for placing the mail inside, as there is a 'cake cooling grill' inside the base to keep the mail drier if raining.
It is mounted on a cemented stone cairn at the gravel entrance to the 'Wakatu' property, which is declared by a unique homemade sign of random metal pieces, that is hanging behind it.

[I have asked around at work, and friends, as I feel that I have seen something similar in a movie (I wanted to know the movie), but it may just be that it has been 'in my head' since I have taken the photo almost a year ago!]
