On Strada Ierusalim (Jerusalem Street) is a plaque to commemorate the 3000th anniversary of the city of Jerusalem. The plaque shows the Coat of Arms of the City of Jerusalem and the following text in Romanian, Hebrew, Russian and English language:

Street named after the 3000
anniversary of Jerusalem

Jerusalem is much older than 3000 years, but we don't know what this anniversary exactly refers to.

Jerusalem Municipality

"Shortly after the founding of Israel, then-mayor Gershon Agron of West Jerusalem initiated a design contest among local graphic designers for a municipal seal. The winning design was presented by a team led by typographer and artist Eliyahu Koren.

The seal's design consists of a shield with the Lion of Judah flanked on either side by olive branches and superimposed on a stylized background representing the Western Wall. Above the main display is the Hebrew-language word for Jerusalem."

Why exactly this street has been chosen for the new name, is to be found elsewhere:

"In 1998, Pushkin Boulevard was renamed Jerusalem Street on the 3000th anniversary of the first recorded Jerusalem.

Between Grigore Vieru Boulevard and Pushkin Street, a monument to the victims of the Jewish ghetto in Chisinau was erected on Jerusalem Street. Nearby is the main entrance to the former ghetto, which was established in the lower part of the city in July 1941 after German and Romanian units took control of Chisinau. Within weeks, more than 11,000 Jews – men, women and children – were imprisoned in the ghetto. An information board in front of the monument shows the ghetto’s boundaries.

The exact number of Jews remaining in the city at the time is unknown. Some were deported by the Soviets shortly before the war, while others were evacuated or conscripted into the Red Army. However, thousands of Jews were unable or unwilling to leave the city. Only six people emerged alive from the ghetto in 1944…"

Jerusalem

"Jerusalem is an ancient city in West Asia, on a plateau in the Judaean Mountains between the Mediterranean and the Dead Sea. It is one of the oldest cities in the world, and is considered holy to the three major Abrahamic religions - Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. Both Israelis and Palestinians claim Jerusalem as their capital; Israel maintains its primary governmental institutions there, and the State of Palestine ultimately foresees it as its seat of power. Neither claim, however, is widely recognized internationally."
