"An investment of 20,000 euros will put an end to the inconvenience that leaks are causing to users of the Leiro Public Library. The City Council had acquired and restored an old building to accommodate this municipal service. However, the mayor, Francisco José Fernández, states that since 2011 water leaks have been occurring as a result of the expansion and displacement of the copper plates that were installed precisely to prevent the access of humidity.
The expansion also caused the breakage of some hooks in the aforementioned cover, for which reason, when it rains, it is necessary to use buckets to collect the water and prevent books and furniture from being damaged.
In addition, the City Council, during all this time, proceeded to make some small repairs, and even placed plastic, to prevent the books from being damaged. According to the councilor, 'I consider it very important to solve this problem because water leaks were increasing.' The library has 8,000 cataloged volumes, in addition to another 6,000 stored funds. The financing of the works in the amount of 20,000 euros is the responsibility of the Department of Education."
