The Röderbogen actually has two clocks that we were able to photograph, one on the east side and one on the west side of this arch containing tower. The faces of the clocks are very similar with the sun in the middle on a light blue background, surrounded by a white dial with the hours as roman numerals. How they differ is interesting: The east facing clock has a fleur de lis pointing hour hand with a crescent other end. The minute hand is what appears to tbe a lyre with the same crescent. The west facing clock has a solid sun disc indicating the hour and the crescent at the other end., while the minute hand has a longer double fleur de lis. The exterior of the clock face is fleur de lis patterns of two shades of coral.
The Röderbogen was built beginning in 1172 as part of the original city wall (to keep out invaders) and a roof was added afterwards. It was completed in 1204. There is a green tower and the brickwork under the two clocks is slightly different on both sides.
