"La Iglesia de la Asunción de Alfacar se remonta a mediados del siglo XVI. Se construyó al ser derribada la anterior iglesia en 1557. La antigua iglesia se erigió en el mismo lugar que una mezquita árabe, que fue sacralizada después de que los Reyes Católicos ordenaran purificar dichos templos.
En un principio, se dedicó a la Advocación de Santa María de los Ángeles.
Los materiales utilizados para su construcción son piedras de travertino procedentes de las canteras de la localidad. Estas piedras también fueron utilizadas en la construcción de la Catedral de Granada. El uso de estas piedras no era habitual en iglesias granadinas de tipo mudéjar. El cantero del cual se tiene constancia en la construcción de la Iglesia es Sancho De Venero.
En el exterior nos encontramos una construcción en cantería. La portada lateral es la puerta principal y está enmarcada por molduras de pilastra y un arco de medio punto. En la parte superior encontramos un tondo cuya función era albergar la imagen de la Virgen de la Asunción. También podemos encontrar un escudo heráldico del arzobispo Don Pedro Nuño de Guevara del siglo XVI.
La otra portada se realiza con decoración heráldica y rematada con un óculo en la parte superior. Si bien las fachadas son sencillas en decoración les caracteriza el pulimentado de la piedra.
Al entrar a la Iglesia, encontramos las paredes laterales encaladas y al fondo, en el presbiterio y en el arco toral se puede ver la piedra descubierta. Esto se debe a que en la última reforma llevada a cabo en la Parroquia se decidió descubrir la piedra de algunos tramos. En un principio las paredes mostraban los sillares de piedra pero posteriormente se encalaron y cubrieron las cubiertas con cañizo y escayola.
En la iglesia de la Asunción se puede encontrar gran variedad de obras de arte, entre las cuales se puede destacar un Cristo en la Cruz del siglo XVI, cuatro cuadros de la escuela granadina situados en la capilla mayor del siglo XVII, el retablo Mayor, el retablo Eucarístico con la imagen de la Inmaculada y una escultura de San Antonio del siglo XVIII".

This is because in the last renovation carried out in the Parish it was decided to uncover the stone in some sections. At first the walls showed stone ashlars but later they were whitewashed and the roofs were covered with reed and plaster.
In the church of the Assumption you can find a great variety of works of art, among which we can highlight a Christ on the Cross from the 16th century, four paintings from the Granada school located in the main chapel from the 17th century, the main altarpiece, the Eucharistic altarpiece with the image of the Immaculate Conception and a sculpture of Saint Anthony from the 18th century".
