The fish ladder is located on the eighth kilometer of the Berounka river (it is the last weir on this river before it joins the Vltava) in the town of Cernochovice. There is a marked hiking trail and cycle path on the shore along the weir with the fish ladder, but entry to the weir or the fish crossing is prohibited.
The weir, more than 100 meters long, formed a 2.5-meter-high barrier to fish migration, which is why it was expanded during the reconstruction in 2014-2015 to include a flume fish crossing and also a sports culvert for canoeing.
