The Newfane, VT was charted in 1761. The original settlement was on Newfane Hill. The members of congregational church were gathered there in 1774 and built their first church. In 1832 the church was relocated to the flat land below the hill. The present building was erected to replace the original structure in 1839.
The church is three bays wide that are separated by piasters. Piasters are also locate at the ends. A set of steps lead up to a large square central double door entrance. Flanking the entrance are a pair of 4 by 5 pane double hung windows with black shutters. On the second level are three identical multi-pane Gothic style windows set over square black shutters and flanked by pairs half pointed arch shutters with there curved sides towards the window. Above is a large pediment with an pointed arch louver in the center.
Rising from the gable roof is a four stage steeple. The bottom stage is a square tower. Above are two progressively smaller square towers with Gothic style louvers. The fourth sage is a pyramidal spire topped with a weathervane.
The sides of the church are four bays deep. The lower level has smaller windows with flanked by rectangular shutters. The second level has windows with rectangular shutters and pointed arch louvers on top.
