Sanlucar de Guadiana and Alcoutim are border villages. They have been so for centuries and war and peace touched these communities. Friends and foes along time, the two communities have now an excellent relationship, with plenty of cooperative projects.
There are talks about a bridge here. That will have a negative impact in the landscape and probably ruin these ferries business, but for now it's the only way to travel from one village to the other, from one country to the other.
The connections take place every 30 min if departing from Portugal. The ferry will pick up passengers from the Spanish side as soon as people show up on the pier.
Tickets are 2,50 Eur for a roundtrip or 1,50 Eur for a one way. Crossings until 20:00.
