The many bunkers at Blavandshuk were part of the Atlantic Wall, which was an essential element of the German coastal defence during WWII.
The L485 radar bunker had mounted a 10m high and 30m wide Mammut radar on the bases on the bunker. This one had to navigate the night fighters from Fliegerhorst Grove (Karup) so they could find and shoot down enemy aircraft. 14 enemy machines were reportedly shot down with the help of the radar position in
Blavandshuk.
The radar units of the type Funkmeßortungsgeräte (FuMO) were spread along the coast, on concrete bases or directly on top of Regelbau bunkers of type V174. This model is only built in Denmark and is available in variations with different height of the radar tower.
The FuMB type was a passive radar. It was designed to capture the Allies' movements / activities. In 1942, the Luftwaffe erected the Büffel radar position, slightly north-east of the cannon post and at the beginning of the following year - namely 1943, bomb-proof bunkers were also built at this support point.
