"The current church of Carmen was founded in the 18th century on the old hermitage of Cristo de la Sangre, which dated from the 16th century. It is possible to see Gothic Mudejar details belonging to the previous building.

The marquises of Estepa have used the temple crypt as a noble pantheon for many centuries. Possessing one of the most impressive façades of the Andalusian eighteenth-century baroque, it combines black and white marble panels with columns, the author being Andrés de Zabala.

Inside the temple we highlight the carving of the Virgin of Carmen, on the main altar. It dates back to the mid-17th century and was donated by one of the Marchionesses of Estepa, Mrs. Leonor María Centurión y Mendoza. As a striking feature we point out that it is not represented with the Child Jesus in its arms.

We can also find different pieces of great artistic and historical value, such as a canvas dedicated to the Christ of the Blood from the late 16th century or votive offerings dedicated to the Virgin of Carmen."
