Call me in the day of trouble, and I will save you, and you will honor me!” Psalm 50:15
Father Virgil Waß compiled the legends on which the pilgrimage church inwerfenweng is based. Since the founding, people have repeatedly had the experience that was promised to all of us from the beginning with the shepherds in Bethlehem: “Do not be afraid! “Today in the city of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord.” The church was consecrated on September 8, 1509. The area itself was already known in 1090, when Archbishop Thiemo gave Admont Abbey one and a half farms “at Wenga in Pongowa”.
The pilgrimage experienced its greatest boom in difficult times. The word that Peter uttered with great certainty is appropriate here: “Lord, to whom shall we go, You have the words of life!” When the plague raged in the 17th century, epidemics robbed people of their existence or Napoleon's soldiers and their allies put the country in fear and terror, people always remembered the help of the good mother, the “consolatrix afflictorum”. “Comforter of the afflicted.” Faith never stops with itself, it is not sufficient for itself, but rather opens your eyes to the needs of others
