Starved Rock State Park is located along the southern bank of the Illinois River between the towns of Ottawa and Peru. Streams running over the loose sandstone formations have created several canyons and waterfalls: 18 in all. The park has an extensive trail system taking hikers to the many scenic overlooks, waterfalls and other points of interest found in the park.
LaSalle Falls is found in LaSalle Canyon, about a 4-mile round trip hike from the visitor’s center. But if you park your car at Parkman’s Plain along IL Route 71, the hike is substantially shorter. Like many waterfalls, the amount of water flowing over LaSalle Falls varies with the season and the amount of recent rainfall. It is also a waterfall that you can easily walk behind.
