In the 1780s, when this burying ground was opened by the local Church of England community, the area had just changed its name from Royal Township Number Seven to Augusta Township. There has been an Anglican chapel (the Blue Church) in the cemetery since 1809. In 2023, the Blue Church building dates back to the 1840s.
Despite the fact that this is an Anglican church cemetery, the site is dominated by a large monument to Barbara Heck, the Mother of American Methodism.
