As part of the 150th anniversary of women’s suffrage, Visit Cheyenne and the City of Cheyenne have unveiled a new "Big Boot" to commemorate the celebration.
Located near the Wells Fargo drive-thru at 1701 Capitol Avenue, the hand-painted, 8-foot-tall cowboy boot depicts a Victorian woman voting at the Alert Hose Company Fire Station, the site where the first female vote was cast in Cheyenne on Sept. 6, 1870.
"The completion of this suffrage big boot not only commemorates history in Cheyenne and the state of Wyoming, but for our country," said Mayor Marian Orr. "It's a fitting tribute to our celebration of women’s suffrage."
"I commend all the hard work put into this project by the boot’s artist, Cathy Nicholas, and our partners at Visit Cheyenne," Orr added.
The boot joins the suffrage mural at the corner of Carey Avenue and W. 17th Street as public art pieces celebrating the 150th anniversary.
