Striking monument located in Remembrance Park in Georgetown.
The monument is dedicated to the soldiers of the Lorne Scots (Peel Dufferin and Halton Regiment) in honour of the 150th anniversary of the Regiment in 2016.
The Regiment traces its beginnings to 1866 The Lorne Scots (Peel, Dufferin and Halton Regiment) originated in Brampton, Ontario in September of 1866 as the 36th "Peel Battalion of Infantry". It was redesignated as the 36th Peel Regiment on 8 May 1900, as the Peel Regiment on 1 May 1920 and The Peel and Dufferin Regiment on 15 April 1923. On 15 December 1936, it was amalgamated with The Lorne Rifles (Scottish) and redesignated The Lorne Scots (Peel, Dufferin and Halton Regiment.
The regiment has served in every major theatre of operations including WWI, WWII and Afghanistan.
The memorial is loosely based on the Vimy Ridge memorial. It is constructed of the same white granite used for every new monument in Canada. The Regiment's badge , in bronze, is situated at the top of the twin features. The Regiment's 17 Battle Honours are beneath the badge.
