"The current parish temple seems to have been built at the beginning of the 17th century and enlarged about 16 years later, being paid for by the people and the Malaga bishop.
On the façade of the church there is a tombstone that, next to the coat of arms of the diocese of Malaga, reads: "BY THE S. DEAN AND CABILDO WITH THEIR BIZITATOR DR. D. JOPH JILES PRETEL. ACABOZE YEAR 1658"; tombstone that could bear witness to the date of the definitive consecration of the temple. In later years it underwent various reforms.
The temple has three tall naves separated by semicircular arches on square pillars. The ceiling is made of wood and without being extremely luxurious, it shows elegance and beauty. The transept and the main altar are covered with four groin vaults. Made in 1725, a high choir appears at the foot of the temple. The altars dedicated to Our Lady stand out. P. Jesus and the Sorrowful Virgin.
As artistic pieces of interest, there is a display stand, a work from the end of the 18th century, made of white silver with paired columns on plinths in the corners and decorated with gilt silver figures, and also from the same century, a large semicircular canvas painted in oil. which represents the Assumption.
The temple's façade is made of brick of no particular importance. However this parish was considerably richer; "The Spanish Civil War and the lack of care and interest in artistic and valuable pieces contributed to the loss of altarpieces of certain artistic value and to the majority of silver goods."
