"The current hermitage is a 27 m by 7 m box, covered by a carport section vault with transoms.

A main arch separates the nave from the main chapel, covered with a lowered dome, without lights, a large dressing room with a dome. In the 17th century, two chapels were added, that of the Rosary or Virgen de la Rosa, covered by a dome with a lantern, all decorated with plasterwork, carved the same as the walls. The large stipees whose upper half resolve into columns and others into karyotids are curious.

The side door of the hermitage is considered of great importance for the history of art in Aguilar, since it establishes a type that is repeated with variants according to the advances of the Baroque style up to five times in different churches in our town. The Veracruz façade is undoubtedly the oldest and also the simplest and closest to classicism. It can be dated to around the middle of the 17th century and its antecedents may be more Sevillian than Cordoban.

Inside, magnificent works of art are preserved, highlighting its altarpieces, the Mayor one, made of carved and polychrome wood, from the second half of the 17th century.
The elements supporting the order are Solomonic columns with six volutes, Attic bases and Corinthian capitals. Garlanded with branches, clusters and vine leaves, they determine three streets occupied by niches, the side ones, and the window in which the dressing room opens to the center. Of magnificent workmanship are the two Churrigueresque-style altarpieces that are located face to face in the central arch.

Among its sculptures, all of great artistic value, the Holy Christ of the Column and Scourges stands out, a polychrome wood carving, embodying polish, a work from the 17th century of the Sevillian School.
The Ecce-Hommo "Jesus Imprisoned", jewel of the Baroque imagery of the Granada school, 17th century, is the work according to all scholars of the great master Alonso de Mena, and which once belonged to this Brotherhood.
During these 400 years of history that is enclosed in the walls of this hermitage, there have been many works of extensions and restorations that have been carried out, sometimes to clean it up and other times because of its deterioration caused by the passage of time, accidents, which caused consolidation reforms and in which the Brotherhood of Veracruz notably intervened.
On October 20, 1981, it was declared a national historical-artistic monument by the Ministry of Culture."
