Twin Bears (1996) is a bronze sculpture of two standing bears by Canadian sculptor Leo Mol (1915-2009). It is in Calgary’s Baker Park, on the edge of the large grass lawn that extends down to the Bow River. A second bear sculpture by Leo Mol, Playful Cubs, is on the opposite side of the lawn. The two sculptures were originally (2008) both located at on 7th Avenue, at 3rd Street East and 9th Street West, as part of the LRT transit corridor, which is why their plaques say that “Transportation” acquired them.

Leo Mol (Leonid Molodozhanyn) was born in Ukraine in 1915. He learned ceramics from his father, who was a potter. He went on to study art at the Leningrad Academy of Arts from 1936 to 1940. In 1948, Mol and his wife emigrated to Winnipeg, Manitoba. Mol was a prolific artist, and donated over two hundred sculptures for Winnipeg’s Leo Mol Sculpture Garden.
