With the building of the turning bridge over the Trollhätte channel for the railway from Trollhättan to Vänersborg around 1934 also a transformer building was erected on the small river island Hjulkvarnsholmen to support the electric needs of the bridge.
The turning bridge was replaced by a vertical lift bridge in 2001, the external lines from the building were removed. According to the warning signs on electricity the transformator building is still in use.
