This stamp of 1'65€ value, and stamped in the year 2023, shows the façade of the Old Convent of San Francisco, and today it is the Historical Archive.

"Come with us to the Artistic Heritage series, this time with the stamp dedicated to the façade of the old Convent of San Francisco. It was declared a Historic-Artistic monument in 1923 and therefore, we celebrate the centenary of this event in 2023.

Located in Ourense, the construction of this unique building began in the 14th century. After the fire of the Franciscan convent of the city, the Franciscan order settled in this architectural jewel until the 19th century. It then passed into the hands of the army, becoming infantry barracks after the disentailment of the 19th century. The most outstanding features of the building are its medieval construction and its Gothic-style cloister. Currently, it houses the headquarters of the Provincial Historical Archive of Ourense (AHPOU).

One of its most outstanding reforms was the construction of a Baroque cloister between the 16th and 18th centuries. In addition, the new main façade was reformed between the late 19th and early 20th centuries. It is important to underline that both cloisters, Gothic and Baroque, make it an architectural heritage of a special singularity".
