The capsule was buried by the Bicentennial Commission.
The Dec. 4, 1978, issue of the Journal-Patriot said items buried in the time capsule (actually a burial vault from Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home) included “a telephone instrument, telephone directory, newspapers, governmental documents, rare knives, coins, mirrors from Carolina Mirror Corp. and Gardner Mirror Co., local church literature, expired driver’s licenses and papers related to the history of the county.”
