The cast iron gun is appropriately displayed in position within the Fort Wellington National Historic Site. Maintained by Parks Canada, an entry fee is required. As of 1923, the fort was no longer operated by the military.
This War of 1812 gun is mounted on a long wood traversing carriage. From Fort Wellington's southwest bastion, it targets the St Lawrence River and the shores of New York state.
Serial number 70897, the 24-pounder was cast by Carron in 1807. Interestingly, Carron serial number 70899 is on display in Picton, Ontario (WMN7AZ).
