The park is named after the local citizen Betty Back, who lived in a small cabin on the site until 1918. Betty was known for her homemade bread that she sold to children in the neighborhood. The cottage was moved to Forngården in 1937, where it is still preserved. On the site there has also been a fire station, a church and a crafts school, that was built in 1865. All of these buildings were removed in 1993 for building the park.
The park was inaugurated in 1994 and has since then been a popular meeting place in the middle of the city. Among other things, you can play lawn bowling and have a picnic on the lawn. The Café Gillet offers small snacks and drinks at moderate prices.
In 2007 the park was extended with the "Park of Fame".
