This limestone-block two-cell jail was the pride of the town when it was constructed in the late 1800s (dates vary but the best accepted is 1897). Not a particularly high-security facility, this building was used to house drunk and disorderly citizens and such. After a more modern jail was constructed in the 1920s this building was used for storage and was then disassembled and the stones moved - some say to the railroad tracks and others (including the museum curator) believe that it was partially re-assembled on the bank of the Arkansas River and used as an ice house. At any rate, the historical society had carefully measured and numbered the stones, hoping to re-assemble the jail some day. And in 1984 most (but not all) of the stones were recovered and reassembled near the former train depot, which was at that time converting to the Mulvane Historical Museum. You can read more about this old jail here.
