One of 2 family burial grounds for the descendants of Samuel Gardner. The other is the adjacent South Gardner Cemetery where Samuel rests. The North Gardner Cemetery was established in 1841 and is located on Old Gardner's Neck Road (behind the Fire Station). It is also known as Swansea Historic Cemetery #02.
Burials date back to the early 1800s. The last burial was ~ 2016. The cemetery has been photographed but several unmarked graves remain. Alfred Gardner, a member of the 1st Rhode Island Light Artillery, who was killed in action at Gettysburg, PA, on July 3rd, 1863 was supposedly moved from the battlefield grave to this family cemetery. His grave is unmarked.
The Gardner Family was one of the oldest, prominent families in town and owned most of the land in this part of the town - thus the name Gardners Neck.
