If the traditional Japanese teahouse in Vancouver’s Nitobe Memorial Gardens dates to the opening of the garden in 1958, it would have been in need of restoration 36 years later, in 1994. This plaque commemorates the support of the Urasenke (visit link) tea ceremony’s Grand Master, Dr. Soshitsu Sen XV, for the restoration.

The Urasenke tea ceremony’s Vancouver association, Vancouver Urasenke Tankokai, teaches and presents the tea ceremony at Vancouver-area venues and events such as the Nikkei Cultural Centre, Van Dusen Garden’s Sakura Days Japan Fair, and in Nitobe Gardens.
Year built or dedicated as indicated on the structure or plaque: 1994
