"The new Ziguinchor water tower, with a storage capacity of 3,200 m3, was inaugurated on Monday, May 30, by the Minister of Hydraulics and Sanitation, Mansour Faye, in the presence of Charles Fall, Director General of the Sones.
This work, the largest in West Africa with that of Mbour, cost 1.2 billion (BOAD and Sones financing), out of overall investments of 4.5 billion for the southern capital. It's a leap forward. The Ministry of Hydraulics and Sanitation, through Sones, pampers the populations of the South.
Before this new work, the city had 2 water towers which had a total capacity of 1500 m3. But this capacity was reduced to 500 m3 after the decommissioning of one of the two storage structures. The new 3,200 m3 water tower made it possible to quadruple the storage capacity, thus ensuring the city of Ziguinchor one day of autonomy in the event of a service interruption. In addition, underlines the minister, thanks to the construction of 5 additional equipped boreholes and the mobilization of 5 emergency generators, the water is of better quality. Mansour Faye also welcomed the creation of 2,709 social connections and 40 kilometers of network and 52 standpipes; which allowed more than 40,000 people to have access to drinking water."
