This cemetery Has 2 entrances. One is on Hortonville Road and the other is on Milford Road.
This cemetery is also known in the Bristol County Massachusetts Cemeteries Database as SW029.
There are ~3200 burials in the cemetery dating back to the early 1800's. There are 2 stones for the Wood family dated 1782 and 1784, but the Swansea Historical Society does not have any records of burials that old in this cemetery. Their records indicate these Wood family members are actually buried in northern New England.
There are several prominent burials here - the "newest" being former MLB player (Boston Red Sox and San Francisco Giants) Russ Gibson (1939-2008).
This cemetery is also home to many prominent Swansea families like the Cottons, Bakers, Easterbrooks, Gardners, Shermans, Wilburs and Woods
It is also home to a few famous Swansea women (from the Swansea Historical Society website - (

Violet F. Bliss Dennis - a renowned cookie maker in Swansea
Katherine "Kay" Eddy - original dispatcher for the Swansea Fire Department
Elizabeth Stevens Brown - the first Black school educator and prinicipal in Swansea

There are also 2 well maintained Zinc Headstones in the cemetery. See the photos for our waymarks for these headstones.
