The Pompeii Lupanar is the most famous brothel in the Roman city of Pompeii. It is of particular interest for the erotic paintings on its walls.

The Roman word for brothel was lupanar, which means "lair of wolves", since the prostitute was commonly called lupa ("she-wolf"), due to the popular Roman belief that she was a promiscuous female.

The first Pompeian excavators, guided by the strict modesty of the time, quickly classified any building containing erotic paintings as a brothel. Using this metric, Pompeii would have 35 lupanares. Given a population of about ten thousand inhabitants in Pompeii of the first century AD. C., this would yield the figure of one brothel for every 286 people or 71 adult males. The use of a stricter standard to identify brothels later led to a more realistic figure that includes nine one-room establishments and the Lupanar at VII, 12, 18–20.

Brothels during this period were typically small, with only a few rooms. The Lupanar was the largest of the brothels found in Pompeii, with 10 rooms. Like other brothels, the Lupanar's rooms were simply furnished. A mattress on a brick platform served as a bed.
