The author of the sculpture of King Alfonso This sculptor is one of the favorite disciples of Mariano Benlliure and his production is characterized by a total thematic diversity; religious and monumental sculpture, portraits, nudes, bullfighting and flamenco scenes and figures and popular groups and the work of the countryside of his land. He completed his higher studies at the School of Fine Arts of Santa Isabel de Hungary in Seville. A tireless worker, hundreds of works have come out of his hands and have been unveiled in numerous individual and group exhibitions. He was awarded the Jacinto Higueras National Sculpture Prize. And his sculptural concept is characterized by the purest realism.

In this sculpture, made in 1965, the king appears with a marked frontal attitude, dressed as a warrior but with a mantle, scepter and royal crown that gives him great dignity. In his left hand he carries a voluminous book, a symbol in a clear allusion to his intellectual, literary, scientific, historical and legal facet in recognition of the creation of the Toledo School of Translators sponsored by the King, through which we know the classic writings , Greeks and Romans.

From the visit of Fernando III to Córdoba, the Alcázar began to become the usual residence of the monarchs, with Alfonso edification.

Alfonso X El Sabio (Toledo 1221-Seville 1284) was King of Castilla y León, son of Fernando III "El Santo" and one of the most significant political and cultural figures of the Middle Ages in the Iberian Peninsula. As an infant he performed important works, and in 1252 he inherited the throne upon the death of his father.
