The railway station at Inverurie is situated 16 miles from the Scottish city of Aberdeen and is run by Scotrail on what is the line between Aberdeen and Inverness, it being mostly single track from here to the Highland capital.
The first station in the town, then called Inverury, was opened on September 20th 1854 on the Great North of Scotland main line from Aberdeen Waterloo to Keith. It was situated around 880 feet south of the current station.
In 1856 it became the junction station of the new Inverury & Oldmeldrum Junction Railway, and was renamed Inverurie in 1866.
In 1902 the present station was built with three platforms to be nearer the Inverurie Locomotive Works which was then being built. The former station ceased to be a junction station in 1931 when it was closed to passengers, but remained freight only until 1966.
The station is situated north of the town centre and is a category B listed single storey building with a prominent cupola. Platform 1 has a staffed ticket office and a footbridge crosses the line at the station's centre.
There is one train every 2 hours between Aberdeen and Inverness and an hourly shuttle to Montrose, with two to three shuttles per hour to Aberdeen.
