En esta Iglesia, destaca la bella fachada principal, enmarcada por una portada barroca que alberga a la Virgen de la Asunción en una hornacina.
Madre de Jesús. Los evangelios sólo aportan, respecto a María, los datos fundamentales y algunas anécdotas. Consta que antes y después del nacimiento de Jesús vivió en Nazaret, pequeña ciudad de Galilea, y que, según la ley, estuvo casada con el artesano San José, descendiente de la casa del rey David. María acompañó a Jesús de Nazaret durante su ministerio de un lugar a otro, junto con las mujeres que le acompañaron desde Galilea y los "cuatro hermanos de Jesús": Santiago, José, Simón y Judas, hijos de María y Cleofás.
Después de siglos de discusión entre las escuelas, la Iglesia fue llegando a la conclusión de que María había sido redimida en atención a los méritos de Cristo, pero que, desde el primer instante de su ser, se había visto libre de la mancha original. Éste es el dogma de la Inmaculada Concepción definido por Pío IX en 1845. En la bula Munificentissimus Deus, Pío XII definió en 1950 el dogma de la glorificación o Asunción, según el cual María fue asumida en cuerpo y alma al cielo después de su muerte sin conocer la corrupción del sepulcro.
El 15 de agosto es el día de la Asunción de la Virgen María, que hace referencia al día en el que María subió al cielo sin morir. Se trata de una de las celebraciones más consagradas de la Iglesia.
