1865 the company around the engineers Antenor Nydqvist, Johan Magnus Lidström and Carl Olof Holm (since 1920 Nydqvist Och Holm AB, NOHAB) started building locomotives in the town of Trollhättan for the Swedish railway "Statens Järnväg". Model "B" was introduced in 1909 and intended for fast freight trains and heavy passenger trains.
The locomotives were 19,49m long and weighed in total about 116,8t. Capacity for coal was about six tonnes, for water about 20 cubic meters. The locomotives had four 0,97m front wheels and six 1,75m driving wheels, the two large outside cylinders with a size of 590 mm × 620 mm gave a larger starting tractive effort of 94kN and so the maximum speed achieved on flat ground was 90 km/h.
96 locomotives of the "B" type were built in Trollhättan in the time of 1909 to 1919 for the railway and three more in the years 1943 and 1944 for private customers. Nearly 50% of the "B" type survived until the 1990ies in an operational state, as they were considered a strategic reserve for Sweden.
The SJ B 1320 was built in 1917 and was in use until 1993. 1997 the old factory premises of NOHAB were transformed into the Innovatum Science Center. In order to honor the place the SJ B 1320 was put back at it's birthplace in front of the old machine halls.
