1857 a separate parish was formed for the city of Trollhättan and needed a church. The church near the channels of Trollhättan was a gift of the channel operator "Nya Trollhätte Kanalbolag". The design of the church was created by architect Adolf Wilhelm Edelswärd in a neo gothic style. Building the church started in 1860, on Thanksgiving 1862 (which was October 5th) the church was inaugurated.
The church has been renovated several times. In 1962, the colored windows were added, designed by the artist Ralph Bergholz. In 1983-84, the church received its current interior under the work of the architect Jerk Alton which included a completely new color scheme and new lighting. The most recent renovations took place in 2009-2010 when the windows were painted, the bricks got new joints and the nave got a new copper roof.
The regular Protestant service usually takes place on Sundays at 11 a.m., the community offers also a shuttle service. A touristic visit of the church is usually possible, but the opening times vary, so it's best to see the actual opening times for the church on the according website of the Swenska kyrka first.
