No es posible dar una fecha exacta de la fundación de Tibi, que en latín significa «para ti», pero ya existía en épocas anteriores a la dominación romana, porque siendo España Provincia del Imperio Romano, el Gobernador encargado de la administración de está región, creyó conveniente mantener la huerta de Alicante con el riego del agua procedente de la actual Foia de Castalla, pero como en ella había cuatro poblaciones que eran habitadas por muchos vecinos, y usaban esta agua para sus cultivos, no se realizaron cambios.
Durante época musulmana estuvo gobernada por varios reyes, y es cuando se construyó el Castillo cuyas ruinas existen en la localidad. El pueblo perteneció hasta el año 1240, al Rey almohade Zayt-Abu-Zayt, y fue conquistado por Jaime I de Aragón. En el año 1244, según el Tratado de Almizra, celebrado entre Alfonso X y Jaime I, se trazo una línea que servía de frontera entre la Corona de Aragón y la Corona de Castilla, que partía de Biar y pasaba por Tibi y Busot hasta el mar. Don Jaime I de Aragón entregó la Villa a Don Pedro Sancho de Lienda y a su esposa Ixonis de Soler, que tomaron posesión de un pueblo compuesto por 150 casas de cristianos viejos, es decir, familias que mantuvieron y transmitieron su fe cristiana durante los 700 años que duró la dominación islámica. El Caballero Conservador o Alcaide del Castillo fue Don Alfonso Soler.
El señorío de la Villa de Tibi y su Castillo tuvo sucesivos señores hasta que a mediados del siglo XV paso a manos del Marqués de Villena, señor feudal de todo el territorio desde Jumilla a Villena y desde Belmonte hasta Tibi. España se dividió en dos bandos, defendiendo unos al Borbón y los otros al Archiduque, Tibi, con las demás poblaciones de su Hoya, se mostró siempre acérrima partidaria y defensora de Don Felipe de Borbón. Asegurado en el trono de España, el Rey Felipe V, se concedieron muchas mercedes y recompensas a los pueblos que le habían sido fieles.
