Baptism font in St Benedict's church, Glastonbury. 15th century, in the perpendicular style. It is decorated with rectangular cusped panels around the octagonal bowl. It stands on a panelled stem and octagonal base.
The original 11th century church was built dedicated to St. Benignus (or the Anglo-Saxon St. Beonna) but was replaced by the present church in the 14th Century. The Perpendicular tower was added in the mid-15th century, and the style of this font possibly dates it to around that time. The Perpendicular clerestory to the nave, nave arcades, north aisle and porch were constructed in the early 16th Century.
The dedication of the church was changed to St. Benedict in the 17th Century.
