Diseñada por el arquitecto Cambra fue terminada en 1778, en que Patricio Berenguer, constructor, puso la última piedra. Es de estilo gótico-renacentista.

"En la parte oeste del Palacio Municipal, está situada la Iglesia Parroquial de Onil. La iglesia se terminó de construir el año 1778 por el arquitecto Cambra. Tiene unas dimensiones de 25 m de largo, 9 m de ancho y 13 m de altura. Solo existe un nave. Los pilares son de piedra, como toda la iglesia con capiteles y arcos de medio punto. Las bóvedas son de cañón, apuntaladas con arcos de medio punto con aristas. Las superficies laterales, entre las aristas diagonales, están pintadas al fresco representando virtudes Teologales y Cardinales. Entre otras cosas cabe destacar su bello Altar Mayor que antes era de madera tallada encuadrado en el barroco churrigueresco. Policromado en oro y presidiendo el Magnífico Retablo de Santiago Apóstol el Mayor, del s. XV cuyo valor artístico es incalculable, es de autor anónimo pero según estudiosos su firma pertenece al conocido como Maestro de Onil. Destacan también junto con el Retablo, por su gran valor artístico, a la derecha de la nave, la Capilla del Nostre Senyor Robat, de estilo barroco valenciano, a la izquierda, el Baptisterio cuyos frescos, que datan de 1950, son obra del conocido artista internacional nacido en Onil, Eusebio Sempere. Sin duda un bello templo parroquial recomendado para visitar y contemplar".

Without a doubt, a beautiful parochial temple recommended to visit and contemplate".
