Vita Björn was opened as a museum in 1985 and was Finland's first public prison museum at the time.
The prison Vita Björn was built in 1784 and was in operation until 1975.
The prison was not big. It originally consisted of three prison cells, where two more were built in 1839.
Furthermore, there was a residential part for the prison officers and their families.
