Vino al mundo un 21 de junio de 1865. Hijo de Luis Jordá Cantó (1827-1897) y de Catalina CantóAgulló (1837-1884), ya de muy pequeño se le observaron actitudes muy caritativas con sus compañeros y familiares.
Cursó los estudios de bachiller en el antiguo Colegio San Jorge, demostrando grandes aptitudes para el estudio. En esos años de juventud destacaron principalmente por las cuestiones socialesy por su dedicación al mundo obrero, especialmente a los niños más pobres.
En 1882, cumplidos los 17 años, ingresó en el Seminario Conciliar de Valencia, cursando de forma brillante los estudios de Humanidades, Filosofía y Teología.
Don José Jordá Cantó fue Consiliario del Patronato, dedicándose por entero a la institución y convirtiéndose con los años en la incomparable alma de la obra. Era Mossen Josep.
Nuestro entusiasta sacerdote previno la grandeza y expansion que iba a tener la nueva sede del Patronato y su significación en los años siguientes. Con la inauguración y bendición de la nueva casa de la calle Santa Marta, habían terminado los peregrinajes por distintos lugares de la ciudad.
Mossen Josepno no se equivocaría en sus previsiones; comenzaba un propósito renovador.
Todas las actividades del Patronato tuvieron como fin primordial la caridad.
Hacer el bien al prójimo estaba siempre en la mente de Mossèn Jusep como único objetivo, en años en que reinaba la pobreza más absoluta en las familias más desfavorecidas.
El Patronato estableció un “roperosocial” a través del cual y gracias a donaciones de ropa en buen estado, unas 200 piezas, entre mantas,
abrigos, bufandas, trajes, camisas, pantalones, ropa interior o zapatos, se podría repartir entre los niños cada 8 de diciembre coincidiendo con la fiesta de la Purísima Concepción, convirtiéndose ese día señalado en una tradición conocida como “Fiesta del Reparto”
con misa en la Parroquia de Santa María, primeras comuniones y rezo del Santo Rosario, sin faltar la chocolatada para los niños.
El Patronato se había hecho grande, había crecido en calidad y cantidad, y Mossen Josep habia alcanzó el cariño y el reconocimiento más sincero por parte de la población.
Los Salesianos heredarían el Patronatode la Juventud Obrera de Alcoy, fundiéndose ambas partes en una. Así, el 14 de septiembre de 1925, se colocaría la primera piedra del nuevo edificio, obra del arquitecto alcoyano Joaquín Aracil Aznar.
Todos pensaban que llegaría a la vejez; sin embargo el 10 de marzo de 1929, tras la fiestade Santo Domingo Savio, comenzó a sentirse mal. Dos dias despues recibiría la Extremaunción por parte de su confesor, reverendo don Rafael Sanus Aura quien también, al darse cuentacuenta que no podia oir ni hablar, le daria la absolución "in articulo mortis". Mossè.
Alcoy rindió Homenaje a un hombre bueno, como nunca antes se había visto. Una comisión nombrada por el El Ayuntamiento se encargaría de perpetuar su memoria. La Plaza de Santo Domingo pasaría adenominarse de Mossen Josep y se erigiría un monumento en su memoria por suscripción popular, el cual tardaría todavía algunos años en ser colocado. Se puede afirmar sin dudarlo que Mossèn Josep fue el primer salesiano de corazón y alma en alcoy."

"José Jordá Cantó Priest from Alcoy known as Mossèn Josep del Patrona 1865-1929.
He came into the world on June 21, 1865. The son of Luis Jordá Cantó (1827-1897) and Catalina Cantó Agulló (1837-1884), from a very young age he was observed to have very charitable attitudes towards his companions and family.
He studied high school at the old San Jorge College, demonstrating great aptitude for study. In those years of youth they stood out mainly for social issues and for their dedication to the working world, especially to the poorest children.
In 1882, when he was 17 years old, he entered the Conciliar Seminary of Valencia, brilliantly studying Humanities, Philosophy and Theology.
Mr. José Jordá Cantó was Counselor of the Board of Trustees, dedicating himself entirely to the institution and becoming over the years the incomparable soul of the work. It was Mossen Josep.
Our enthusiastic priest anticipated the greatness and expansion that the new headquarters of the Board of Trustees was going to have and its significance in the following years. With the inauguration and blessing of the new house on Santa Marta street, the pilgrimages to different parts of the city had ended.
Mossen Josepno would not be wrong in his forecasts; a renewing purpose began.
All the activities of the Board of Trustees had charity as their primary purpose.
Doing good for others was always on Mossèn Jusep's mind as the sole objective, in years when absolute poverty reigned in the most disadvantaged families.
The Board of Trustees established a "social wardrobe" through which and thanks to donations of clothing in good condition, some 200 pieces, including blankets,
coats, scarves, suits, shirts, pants, underwear or shoes, could be distributed among children every December 8 coinciding with the feast of the Immaculate Conception, becoming that designated day in a tradition known as "Fiesta del Reparto"
with mass in the Parish of Santa María, first communions and prayer of the Holy Rosary, without missing the chocolate for the children.
The Board of Trustees had become large, had grown in quality and quantity, and Mossen Josep had achieved the love and sincere recognition of the population.
The Salesians would inherit the Patronato de la Juventud Obrera de Alcoy, merging both parties into one. Thus, on September 14, 1925, the first stone of the new building would be laid, the work of the architect from Alcoy, Joaquín Aracil Aznar.
Everyone thought that he would reach old age; However, on March 10, 1929, after the feast of Santo Domingo Savio, he began to feel bad. Two days later he would receive Extreme Unction from his confessor, Reverend Don Rafael Sanus Aura who also, realizing that he could not hear or speak, would give him absolution "in articulo mortis". Alcoy paid tribute to a good man, like never before seen. A commission appointed by the City Council would be in charge of perpetuating his memory. The Plaza de Santo Domingo would be renamed Mossen Josep and a monument would be erected in his memory by popular subscription, which would still take a few years to be placed.
