"What if a building could give you a hug?" asks the Alberta Cancer Foundation's website. Calgary's new cancer centre has two curving, L-shaped wings that "embrace" a central courtyard or "heart". The wings are designed to maximize views and natural light.

A somewhat startling aspect of the design is the way both ends of the taller wing project over several storeys of empty space.

This new Calgary cancer centre, the Arthur J.E. Child Comprehensive Cancer Centre, will be North America's second-largest cancer treatment and research facility.
