EN: "Construction of the Governor's Palace in Gorée was completed in 1864. The building was initially the residence of the head of the naval division of the African coast, whose mission was to repress the clandestine slave trade, before housing Governor Ernest Roume in 1902. Roume occupied the building until 1907, when work was completed on the government palace in the new capital of French West Africa (AOF), Dakar. The building was subsequently used for several purposes: as a school for the Ploërmel brothers, then as a printing works for the general government. It was during this period that it was damaged by a bombing raid during the "Battle of Dakar" in September 1940. It then became a rest center for the French Navy, then a hotel-restaurant called "Le Relais de l'Espadon" until the late 1970s."
