Strathtay is a tiny village in Perthshire located in the centre of the Scottish mainland near the north bank of the River Tay. The Episcopal community in the area first worshipped at Logierait Parish Church to the east, before a small church was built on the Tillypowrie Estate in 1853. The congregation soon after moved to the current site on a hillside above the north side of the road that runs through the village, where a cast-iron tin-style church was built.
In 1888 the building was replaced by a stone chancel which would be dedicated to Bishop Charles Wordsworth, the nephew of poet Willam Wordsworth, who was the Bishop of the church from 1853-93.
In 1919 a stone nave was added, and the church remains like this today. The original bell from the tin church hangs in a bellcote in front of the main south elevation, and an inscription can be found on the east gable of the chancel which reads as follows:
'This church has been built to the Honour and Glory of God in pious memory of the Right Reverend Charles Wordsworth DD Sometime Bishop of this Diocese
WJ Willbrook Incumbent
PN Menzies Secretary
1898'
